Fertilizer effectiveness test for field crop - wheat
Location: Tangcheng Community, Shuyang County, Jiangsu Province
Experimental Period: 12 Oct 2006 to 8 June 2007
Objectives:
- Test the effect of Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets replace compound fertilizer (15-15-15) as the base application on the growth of wheat;
- Compare the economic efficiency of the mix application by Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets and urea on wheat.
Experimental Method: Random blocks, 3 replications
Application Method: Board sowing before seeding
Experimental details:
A typical rice-wheat cropping land was used and all treatments were randomly placed in triplicates. Each plot had an area of 28m2. This experiment only applied fertilizers once as a base application before the sowing according to the local practices. All survey procedures of agronomic cheractistics, sampling and harvesting were according to the standard field experimental design. The yield of each plot was individually measured and statistically analyzed. The prices of Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets as RMB1,500/ton, imported compound fertilizer (15-15-15) as RMB3,800/ton, urea as RMB1,800/ton and wheat as RMB2,400/ton were used for the economical analysis.

Conclusions:
- It is practicable to replace compound fertilizer by Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets. In this experiment the total nitrogen applied in the Fertilife™ 523 treatment was 29.3% lower than the chemical fertilizer treatment while the yield was 16% increased.
- Based the analysis of agronomic characteristics, the base application of fertilizer could increase the effective numbers of spikes of each plant. However, there was not enough nutrients supply to continue increase the weight of grain due to the lack of top-dressing during the plant grow according to local practices.
- In the treatment that the compound fertilizer was replaced by Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets more grains on each spike was found compared with the treatment using local recommended imported brand compound fertilizer, thus the yield was higher. The analysis showed that the significant increase of the numbers of spikes and grains were duo to that the biological effective factors in Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets can stimulate the differentiation of stems and buds, the full array of nutrients and the longer term of holding nutrients by its organic matters can ensure the grain development without suffer from the deficit from any essential trace element and nutrient supply. It is not uncommon the increase in yield but not the increase in profits in many unproductive areas due to the low prices of agricultural products, that is why many farmers in those areas were not willing to invest in fertilizing. This experiment showed a good example as described above. Even the yields from all treatments with fertilizing were increased significantly, such as the yield of chemical fertilizer treatment was 20.8% higher than non-fertilizing control, but the net income after deduction of fertilizer cost was 4.9% lower. While it should point out the treatment mixing with Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets and urea not only increased the yield but also increased the net income for the farmer. It also noted that the urea addition was 1/3 less in this treatment comparing with the treatment using compound fertilizer. This indicates that the effectiveness of Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets has a comprehensive function due to its active biological factors, full array of nutrient profile as well as rich in organic matters to ensure the wheat grows healthier and grains get more nutrients not the absolute value of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets – fertility test on Gerbera

Location: Xiaohe District Academy of Agricultural Sciences Experimental Base,
Guiyang City, Guizhou
Experimental Period: July 20 to Dec 16, 2004
Objectives:
- Test the effect of Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets replace mixed chemical fertilizers as the base application on the growth of Gerbera flowers;
- Compare the economic efficiency of the mix application by Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets and urea on Gerbera.
Experimental Method: Random blocks, 3 replications
Experimental details:
- The experimental was conducted in a greenhouse with a area of 180 m2。The greenhouse had a ventilation system and to keep the temperature inside is about 4-6oC higher than outside。
- The plots of each treatment were randomized with triplicates as the field experimental design. The seeds of Gerbera were sow on July 20, and the young seedlings were transplanted on Aug 4. The planting density of seedlings was 114,345 /hectare. The fertilizers in all fertilized treatments was applied before the transplanting as the base application with the following doses: urea 195.6 kg/ha, phosphate 500 kg/ha and potassium chloride 150kg/ha were used for the chemical fertilizer treatment; Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets 1,525.5 kg/ha was applied for the Fertilife™ 523 treatment. Two top-dressing on Aug 20 and Oct 11 were applied respectively for all fertilized treatments, and a dose of fertilizing was 90.3 kg/ha of urea applied on the base of plant each time. The total of NPK content for chemical group was 12-6-6 and while for Fertilife™ 523 was 12-2.5-3.3. Both groups have the same amount of nitrogen, but phosphate and potassium level of Fertilife™ 523 treatment was only at 1/2 amount.
- The growth stages in all treatments were similar. The agronomic characteristics of Gerbera were measured and recorded based the randomly block design at the recovery stage of plant on Aug 21, at the early flowering stage on Sept 21, at the peak flowing stage on Nov 2 and at the end of flowering stage on Dec 16, 2004, respectively. All data including the diameter of stem, plant height, flower diameter and the numbers of flowers in the plots was statistically analyzed.
- The prices of Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets as RMB1,500/ton, urea as RMB1,800/ton, phosphate as RMB500/ton, potassium chloride as RMB3,500/ton and Gerbera flower as RMB1/each were used for the economical analysis.

Conclusions:
- It is practicable to replace chemical fertilizer by Fertilife™ 523 organic pellets. In this experiment the total phosphate and potassium applied in the Fertilife™ 523 treatment was about 50% lower than the chemical fertilizer treatment while the total numbers of flowers were 8.5% increased. The quality of flowers was also better.
- Both fertilized treatments increased the diameters of plant stems by 8%. The flower’s diameter did not increased significantly and was only by 3-4%, but the total numbers of flowers were increased by 13.5% and 23.1% respectively. It indicates that fertilization would keep the plant having enough nutrient supply during the reproductive stage.
- Analysis of agronomic data showed that the total numbers of flowers in the Fertilife™ 523 treatment was significantly more than the flowers in chemical treatment. Even the application of Fertilife™ 523 was only at the transplanting stage as a base fertilization, the stimulation effect on the differentiation of buds was significant. This result indicates that the fertility of Fertilife™ 523 was a long term effect, its biological activities and full array of nutrient profile plaid a very important role for the development of reproductive organs of the plant.
- Due to the requirement of this experiment based on the equal amount of nitrogen in each treatment, while Fertilife™ 523 had a lower content of nitrogen, thus the applied weight of Fertilife™ 523 was much more than the chemical fertilizer’s and the cost of the fertilizer was also RMB 1,160.10/ha higher. Even thought, the net income of Fertilife™ 523 was still RMB22,665/ha more than the chemical treatment, the increase rate reached 8.1%. It showed that the rate of input and output was better by using Fertilife™ 523.
